Mark Vargas, President
Mark Vargas is co-founder and president of Licentiam – a tech startup, and one of twelve companies internationally named to Chicago-based technology incubator 1871 and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Hispanic-owned tech-startup cohort – the first of its kind in the United States.
Most recently, Mr. Vargas was a principal at a government and public affairs consulting firm where he advised high profile political leaders, government officials, business executives, companies and trade associations on issue advocacy and message development, crisis preparedness and management, media training, media relations and government affairs.
Prior to that, Mr. Vargas was Vice President of a boutique health care consulting firm where he focused on government affairs as well as coordinating the company’s initiative – Stronger2gether – a Washington, D.C.-based program and public-private partnership under the Executive Office of the Mayor aimed at improving birth outcomes and lowering the infant mortality rate by utilizing predictive health analytics. Mr. Vargas also served as the spokesperson for this initiative, and testified frequently as an expert witness before the Committee on Health and Human Services.
From 2007-2010, Mr. Vargas served as a civilian within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. From 2008 – 2010, Mr. Vargas traveled to Iraq fourteen times; in 2009 he was awarded the Secretary of Defense Global War on Terrorism Civilian Service Medal, and in 2010 he was awarded the Under Secretary of Defense Financial Management Team Award for Financial Management Innovations in a Combat Zone. His civilian service within the Office of the Secretary of Defense expanded across two presidential administrations.
A native of Saint Charles, Illinois, Mr. Vargas returned home and at age 28, he announced his candidacy for United States Congress in Illinois’ 14th Congressional District during the 2010 election cycle.
A frequently sought-after guest speaker, Mr. Vargas is also a contributor at the Washington Examiner.
Mr. Vargas received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Judson University where he served as student body president.
Dr. Jason Reed, Co-founder & Partner
Dr. Reed’s experience covers clinical research pharmacy operations to ensure compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations in support of investigational drug therapy protocols for cancer treatment and translational oncology research.
Dr. Reed has led institutional initiatives to develop and implement software for tracking of investigational medications in order to better facilitate regulatory accountability and to enhance data management capabilities. This software has since been deployed at investigational drug services nationally including Comprehensive Cancer Centers and academic medical institutions as a tool to meet regulatory requirements and to promote standardization of workflows across investigational pharmacy practice.
Dr. Reed has also served as a pharmacy consultant to the pharmaceutical industry and academia on clinical research protocol design and conduct as well as on drug development and post-approval strategies when bringing drugs to market.
Dr. Reed received his BS in pharmacy from Rutgers University graduating as class Valedictorian, and his PharmD at the University of Florida graduating cum laude.
